Latest Sermon

Each week our pastor presents a challenge straight from the Scriptures.  It is our prayer that every message heard will both bless and challenge those hearts who receive it.  There's nothing like being here in person to experience worship together, but when we are unable to, we are thankful to have worship available live and archived on both Facebook and Youtube.

We Stand By Broken Hearts.

HONEA PATH FIRST BAPTIST is a place where people can meet Jesus, believers can engage in life-giving community, and everyone is welcome.  We believe in creating a space where people can have authentic encounters with Christ, discover their gifts and use them for Him.  Join us for our Sunday services!

Meet Our Pastor                                                   Doctor Josh Phillips

Thank You for choosing to visit Honea Path First.  It is a privilege to pastor such a loving and kind church family.  At HPFBC Jesus is our message.  People are our mission.  Love is our method.
I look forward to meeting and serving you in the future.
Administrative Committee Meeting
May 13, 2025
  • Discussion was held regarding Wednesday night meals and possible ways to boost attendance; recent maximum attendance is thirty. Participants’ input will be sought.

  • Many thanks to Katelyn Ledbetter who has volunteered to help clean the vault.  When you see her, thank her for her service.

  • Budget requests are out, and as of May 13, personnel is the only request submitted.

  • The chiller is in place and a programmer continues to work with Ben Brown.  The chiller currently doesn’t run to the occupancy requested.  Payment for this continued service comes from the money allocated for the chiller; $21,000 is still available.

  • The price to provide needed updates to our windows is under $15,000 which is a little over $130 per window.  In order to be good stewards of money, this will take place as building project plans are finalized so that unnecessary work and waste will not occur.

  • The architect for our new building believes that the floorplans will be available in the coming weeks.  Because we are doing a design build, a firm start date will be given when plans are 70% ready.  The entire drawings are being considered at the onset even though we have chosen to build in phases.

  • We have network issues with our firewall. Conversations as to what needs to be done in order to secure our network are taking place.

  • Concerns regarding transportation and use/rentals of vans were discussed.  The bus/van committee is responsible for the maintenance of vehicles and not for providing gas needed for trips.   The expectation to return the van with a full tank of gas has not been followed and perhaps not communicated.  This concern will be addressed with all involved so that budgets can be amended to reflect cost of gas usage.

  • There is a money market account with $34,098.31 that was allocated for a bus, but the church voted not to purchase one.

  • Plans are in place to maintain a capital plan for our church.  This will involve a list of projects needing funding in the order of importance.

  • David Keown and Vickie Bouknight were in attendance to speak on behalf of CR.  Their desire is to ensure people who attend Sunday and Wednesday services are aware of this ministry.  Their desire is that anyone and everyone who could benefit from this program has easy access to it.  Awareness is a true need, and CR has the full support of the committee as they move forward in accomplishing this.  Discussions of adding information to the welcome table, creating a brochure for a wall display, an individual table, adding a suicide hotline number to our church sign, creating a card with QR code, etc. were considered as possible solutions.  CR will move forward in how they would like to best accomplish their goal.  Remember to pray for this vital ministry and all that are involved.

  • Ashley Corp. has been awarded the contract for the soccer field with a bid of $297,240.  It is hoped that the field will be finished in September.  The city will seek another grant to cover the lights for the field.  The town has committed to take care of the field.

  • Ideas were given as to how to improve the use of our church sign.

  • Be on the lookout for changes in our bulletin.  Becoming better is always our goal.
